We have provided this service to investors since 2003, but due to retirement and technical reasons the time has now come to shut down. Any payments that cover the period after 31 December 2023 with be returned pro-rata on application to[email protected].

The Share Details screen has been improved.

The new features are:

A new Share Details format for High Definition screen has been set up. You can default to this in the options menu. It contains some extra information such as 20 years results and Charting and Coppock statuses.

New users will now default to the Wide Screen format rather than 4:3.

Most of the data items on the Share Details pages now link to graphs over time for the item. For instance clicking on "Revenue" will give you a graph of Revenue over the last 15 years if the data is available.

If you click on the forecast change fields you will see the trend in EPS forecasts over the last year.

The graphs will default to popping up in a new window, the size of which can be controlled in the options menu. If this causes problems, for instance due to a pop-up blocked you can default the graph to stay in the same browser window. You can also control the size of the chart in the pop-up window using an option called "Chart Scaling Factor" in options. If you find that the chart is too big for the popup window you can set the value to a value less than 1 eg 0.8.

Shading has been added to Share Details to improve readability.

The Country of listing has been added to Share Details.

A new column has been added to Results history called Net Debt / EBITDA . This will show how stretched the balance sheet is. Banks often have covenants that this ratio is not allowed to go above a certain value. 4 would usually be considered too high, 1.5 would be comfortable.

The default format for exporting data is now csv.

A new feature has been added called Alerts.

You can choose to receive a regular emails containing the results of queries that interest you. You can also optionally, see changes in the composition of queries since the last time you received an alert email.

Go to the new menu option called "Alerts" and select the queries you wish to see in your email. You can then test to see what your email would look like.

Initially there will be a limit of 300 rows of data per email. This is prevent excessive bandwidth usage.

The checkbox to turn the standard queries on and off has now been added to the options menu.

Two new columns have been added:

Tangible_Equity_Ratio - This shows the ratio of Net Tangible Asset Value to Total Assets.

PER_Basic - The Price earnings ratio based on the historic Basic EPS.

Total actual performance is now available. This includes dividends and special dividends in the calculation of performance.

10 year relative, actual and total performance are available in Share Selection. The column names are:

Total_Perf_Year, Total_Perf_2Year, Total_Perf_3Year, Total_Perf_4Year, Total_Perf_5Year, Total_Perf_10Year

Abs_Perf_10Year, Perf_10Year

The Summary and Performance screens have been improved to allow user control of the columns displayed. There is a button called "Edit" in Summary and Performance, which takes the user to a screen to Edit the columns shown.

The Summary and Performance screens can now show Averages of these new columns.

ROCE_3Yr : Average Return on Capital Employed over 3 years

Several new searchable columns have been added they are:

Price_Volatility_2Yr : An indicator showing the price volatility over the 2 years.

Beta : A measure of the risk arising from exposure to general market movements as opposed to idiosyncratic factors. It is measured over one year.

Skewness : A measure of the asymmetry of the distribution of price of the share.

Volatility_Score : A score based on the Volatility and Skewness of a share. A value of 1 is the Lowest, 100 the highest. Academic studies have shown that lower volatility shares outperform.

Price_Volatility has been changed to a one year measurement from one month.

Several new searchable columns have been added they are:

Gross_Profit_Margin : % Gross Profit / Turnover

EV_FCF                     : Ratio of Enterprise Value to Free Cash Flow.

Genuine_Value         : Ratio of ((Enterprise Value + Pension) / EBit) / (One + Two year EPS Growth Rates + Dividend Yield)

This ratio has been used in several screens in the Investors Chronicle.

Gross profit  and Gross Profit Margin are now shown in Share Details.

The Pension Deficit / Surplus data has now been populated and is shown in Share Details. Also the historic values of pension deficits can be seen in the Results History at the bottom of the Share Details page. The data is taken from the balance sheet and generally goes back to 2005 when IFRS was brought in.

Several new searchable columns have been added. They are:

Gearing_Debt_Pension      : % Gearing Including Pension Deficit / Surplus.

NetDebt_MktCap               : % Net Debt to to Market Capitalisation.

Pension_MktCap                : % Pension Deficit to Market Capitalisation.

NetDebt_Pension_MktCap : % Net Debt and Pension Deficit to Market Capitalisation.

Pension_Coverage_Days   : Ratio of Pension Deficit to Net Profit + Depreciation expressed in Days.

Two new ratios have been added to the Results History in Share Details. They are:

Turnover/Inventory: The ratio of Turnover to Inventory. A falling ratio may show unsold stock.

Debtor days: The Ratio of Debtors to Turnover x 365. Shows whether there may be a problem with customer not paying their bills on time.

When you create a query you can now limit the number of rows that it returns. The performance and Summary screen will show the appropriate averages for this limited number of rows.

For instance you could create a Zulu screen that returned only the five shares with the best PEG ratio. This shows a better historical return than the standard Zulu criteria.

A new column has been added called Country. This shows either the country of origin of a company or the country of listing.

A new screen called Summary has been added. This shows the average performance of all your screens (together with optionally the standard screens).

It also shows the total number of results returned by a screen and the Standard Deviation of the yearly performance.

The lower the Standard Deviation, the lower the volatility of a portfolio will be.

The Performance screen now has a link to the underlying Shares if if you click on History Date.

Various bugs have been fixed in the historical data.

There is a new page called Performance that shows the actual average performance for a screen over different dates.

There is a button called "Performance" on Share Selection to access the page , or it can be accessed on the main menu.

Absolute actual performances are now available. The column names are:

Abs_Perf_Year, Abs_Perf_2Year, Abs_Perf_3Year, Abs_Perf_4Year, Abs_Perf_5Year,

Abs_Perf_Month, Abs_Perf_3Month, Abs_Perf_6Month

There are new columns to show changes in Market, Value, Quality and Momentum Scores.

Last_Event_Date : The Date at which the last chart event took place.

Last_Coppock_Event : Whether the last Coppock Event was a BUY or SELL, official or unofficial.

Last_Coppock_Event_Date : The Date at which the last Coppock event took place.

Last_Coppock_Value : The Last value of the Coppock signal.

Coppock_Value_Month : The value of the Coppock signal one month ago.

Coppock_State : Whether the Coppock indicator is in a WAIT or HOLD state.

Twelve new searchable columns have been added. They are:

Market_Score : A score based on the Value, Quality and Momentum of a share. A value of 1 is the Best, 100 the worst.

Value_Score : A score based on the fundemental ratios such as Yield, PER, PSR and PTBV.

Quality_Score : A score based on the Quality metrics such as Debt, Margins, ROE.

Momentum_Score : A score based on the share price and forecast momentum of a share.

Value_Quality_Score : A score based on the Value and Quality of a share.

Value_Momentum_Score : A score based on the Value and Momentum of a share.

Quality_Momentum_Score : A score based on the Quality and Momentum of a share.

There is also a new Standard query called "Top Scorers" to show the most attractive shares based on Market Score.

Share Details also shows the above values for an individual share.

MScore : The Beneish M Score which measures the likelyhood of earnings being manipulated.

Buy_Back_Yield : Share buy back measured as a yield.

There is a new option in the Option Menu called Screen Aspect Ratio. It optimises your view of Sharelockholmes, depending on whether you have a standard (4:3) or a widescreen (16:9) monitor.

If you set this option to widescreen the Share Details screen will show information across the full width of your monitor, including extra history information. You will also see wider charts if you chose a wide chart size.

Price_NNWC - Price to Net Net Working Capital - This identifies Bargain shares according to the methods of Ben Graham. Net Net Working capitial is defined as Cash + (0.5*Stocks)+(0.75* Inventory) - Total Liabilities.

EPS_Growth_10yr_3yr_Avg - The EPS averaged over the last 3 years against the 3 year average EPS 10 years ago. This method of looking at EPS growth is used by Ben Graham in the Intelligent Investor.

PER_Avg_EPS_3Yr, PCF_Avg_Cashflow_3Yr, CashFlow_EPS_Avg_3Yr - Three year average PER, PCF and Cashflow / EPS ratios.

The Edit Query Screen has been improved.

When you add or remove columns from the column list, or alter the ordering, the request is processed on the user side, resulting in a great improvement in speed of use. You can also select multiple columns when moving the lists around, by holding down the Shift or Ctrl key when selecting.

There is a new check box option called Sort Available Columns which will allow you to see the list of available columns for a query in alphabetical order.

A new column called Greenblatt_Ranking has been added. This ranks shares by both the highest ROC and Earnings Yield . The ROC calculation has also been changed.

A new column called Last_Chart_Event has been added, which shows the lastest event for a share, as shown in Chart Events.

There is now a new menu item called Chart Events. This shows shares that meet specific charting criteria and the date at which the criteria were met.

Initially Coppock BUYs and SELLs (both official and unofficial), Golden Crosses and Death Crosses are shown.

The Golden Crosses and Death Crosses are based on the 50 and 200 day Weighted Moving Averages.

The "Chart Item" drop down list in Chart now has a new option to show the Coppock Indicator.

You can now specify exact dates for the chart duration.

You can set three sets of moving averages for a Price chart.

You can now see charts for a range of indicators such as EPS, dividend, PER and Net Debt.

Search columns are now available for PER, Yield, EPS_Growth, PEG and Dividend Cover that are based on Historic, Forecast and 2 Year Forecast EPS and Dividend Per Share values

Dividend Yield now has Yield_Historic, Yield_Projected, Yield_Rolling, Yield_Projected2 and Yield_Rolling2 columns.

PEG now has PEG_Historic, PEG_Projected, PEG_Rolling, PEG_Projected2 and PEG_Rolling2 columns.

SMALLCAP and FLEDGLING have been added as FTSE indices. Shares belonging to no FTSE index will be shown as NONE.

A message will appear when a user's subscription approaches the expiration date, and also when the User needs to Login or Register.

Numeric columns can now be compared with other columns. For instance a query to list shares reaching new highs would include Last_Price >= Price_High_Yr as part of a filter. Filters called "New Highs" and "New Lows" have been set up to show shares reaching 52 week highs and lows.

Several extra columns have been added for Selection and query.

They are:

PER_Rolling2 - Will show the rolling 2 year forecast PER . If both the next forecast and 2 year forecast PE ratios are available then the rolling PER will be based on both, as a ratio of the time passed since the results year end date.

eg. If the date is 30 April and year end for a company was 31 December, the next forecast EPS is 4p, the 2 year forecast EPS is 6p and the price is 100p then:

Rolling PER 2 = 100 /(((12-4)/12) x 4 + ((4/12) x 6)) = 100 / 4.66 = 21.4p


PER_Projected2 - Will show the PER based on the 2 year forecast EPS if available.

Price_High_Yr - Will show the highest share price attained in the last 52 weeks.

Price_Low_Yr - Will show the low share price attained in the last 52 weeks.

Year_End_Date - The date of the financial year end.

Final_Ex_Div_Date - The last date that a shareholder is eligible to receive the Final Dividend.

Interim_Ex_Div_Date - The last date that a shareholder is eligible to receive the Interim Dividend.

Share Details now has a new option button called "Rolling", between Projected and Historic. This will show the rolling PER, Yield, PEG and EPS Growth.

Share details now shows the following date information:

Year End Date - The date of the financial year end.

Final Ex Div Date - The last date that a shareholder is eligible to receive the Final Dividend.

Interim Ex Div Date - The last date that a shareholder is eligible to receive the Interim Dividend.

The year shown above the historical data now relates to the year end date of the results rather than the date the results were announced.

Several extra columns have been added for Selection and query.

They are:

PER_Rolling - Will show the rolling PER . If both forecast and historic PE ratios are available then the rolling PER will be based on both, as a ratio of the time passed since the results year end date.

eg. If the date is 30 April and year end for a company was 31 December, the historical EPS is 4p, the forecast EPS is 6p and the price is 100p then:

Rolling PER = 100 /(((12-4)/12) x 4 + ((4/12) x 6)) = 100 / 4.66 = 21.4p

The PER field in Share selection now shows PER_Rolling rather than PER_Historic or PER_Projected. This should alleviate sudden changes in the PER ratio as new Final results are reported.

Yield_Rolling - The rolling dividend yield, calculated similarly to the rolling PER

PER_Sector_Ratio - Ratio of the PER to the PER of the Sector a company is in.

PBV_Sector_Ratio - Ratio of the PBV to the PBV of the Sector a company is in.

PER_Hist_Avg_Ratio - Ratio of the PER to the historical average PER of a company back to 03/2000

PBV_Hist_Avg_Ratio - Ratio of the PBV to the historical average PBV of a company back to 03/2000

Query Edit now has an extra drop down option operator called 'IN'. You can use it to select a range of values, separated by commas. For instance you could put in 'FTSE_Index IN FTSE100,FTSE250' to show shares in the FTSE 350, or 'Sector IN MINING,OIL AND GAS' to show resources shares.

Share Details now shows a link to a chart of the selected share.

You can now select whether to look at a share's chart or the detailed financials when you click on the EPIC link in Share Selection.

PEG_All - Will show the PER to Growth ratio or PEG, if positive, regardless of whether the company has a recent growth record. Note that the PEG column has been tightened up to show only companies with four consecutive years of EPS growth (either historic or Projected).

Piotroski_Score - A scoring system used for measuring the health of low Price to Book companies. It varies from 0 to 9, 9 being healthiest. Property companies and financials are excluded.

The Sector/Sub Sector Selector now has an extra option called FTSE Index which allows selection on FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 companies. There is also a searchable and selectable column called FTSE_Index which can be used in queries.

Relative Strength over nine months two years and three years is now displayed in Share Details. These columns are displayable and selectable in the Share Selection as the RS_9Month, RS_2Year and RS_3Year columns.

The Share Selection screen now has an dropdown option to select on either Sector or Sub Sector. There is also a displayable Sub Sector column.

The Share Details screen can now show Sector averages based on Sector or Sub Sector. An option box will switch between Sector and Sub Sector. The Sector or Sub Sector name will also switch to the appropriate value.

Percent EPS Forecast changes over one week, one month and three months are now shown in Share Details. These values can also be searched and displayed in Share Details using the Forecast_Change_Week, Forecast_Change_Month and Forecast_Change_3Month columns.

Relative Strength over three months and six months is now displayed in Share Details. These columns are displayable and selectable in the Share Selection as the RS_3Month and RS_6Month columns.

Actual Performance over three months and six months are displayable and selectable in the Share Selection backtesting as the Perf_3Month and Perf_6Month columns.

The Latest Price change % is displayable and selectable in Share Selection backtesting as the Last_Price_Change column

A new Search function has been added onto the menu. You can search for a share by EPIC code or by Name. Type in a value into the text box next to "Search" and press Return or click on "Search". You will be taken either to the appropiate Share Details screen or to a list of possible Shares.

A new option call Watch List has been added to Query Edit. If the watch list check box has been set the query will give an "OR" result rather than the usual "AND" result. This can be used to set up a watch list of shares by selecting:

EPIC = ShareName  

for each share you wish to watch in the Search Columns.

A new backtest function has been added. To use it, just change the Date drop down list on the right hand side of the "Share Selection" screen and your query will be shown as it was at that date. There are two new columns you can add in Edit Query called Perf_Year and Perf_Month which you can see the actual performance of a share after the backtest date. These columns will only show up in back testing. Note some delisted shares will not show up in the results.

A new query column called Earnings_Quality has been added. This shows the ratio of the Basic EPS to the Adjusted EPS. This could be used for filtering out shares with large exceptional items.
